Department of Works
The Department of Works operates under the leadership of three Divisional Engineers based in the Central/Eastern, Northern, and Western Divisions. It is responsible for delivering professional advice, technical services, and the implementation of construction projects for various client ministries and departments.Key responsibilities of the Department include:
Construction and Maintenance Services
- Construction of civil works and public infrastructure
- Maintenance and operation of public buildings
- Electrical engineering services, including capital projects and routine maintenance
- Implementation and supervision of rural road construction projects.
Mechanical and Technical Support
- Supply, maintenance, and servicing of plant equipment, vehicles, and mechanical appliances for internal Ministry use
- Mechanical workshop services, including fitting, machining, boiler works, joinery, and plumbing under the Trade and Manufacturing Account
Professional and Technical Services
- Cost estimation and project costing
- Design and project planning
- Monitoring and supervision of construction projects
- Professional advice on building, mechanical, and electrical engineering matters
Special Operations
- Oversight of elevator and lift maintenance for government-owned buildings
- Management of rural government station power supplies in Vunisea, Lakeba, Rotuma, and Nabouwalu
