Overview
The Department of Building & Governments Architect’s focus and priority is on the timely provision of professional advice through consulting services, conceptual designing, quality architectural and structural drawings, project planning and management, costing and scheduling through quantity surveying, programming and monitoring from project inception to completion. Administration of tenders and contracts for construction and civil works is also an integral domain of this department with climate change resilience.
The department also consults with stakeholders on issues related to compliance with legislations and industry standards and is also the parent body that administers the licensing of the approved registered Architects under the Architects Registration Board.
Workstudy
The Work Study unit carry out productivity studies on various aspects of the Ministry’s engineering projects. Inspects and identify areas which cause delay in the progress of the projects and recommend solutions to minimize and avoid delays.
Develop and apply management service techniques. Monitor physical and financial progress of the departments building maintenance programs and conduct physical surveys of building work specification and estimates.
Architects
The Role of the section is to provide complete architectural expertise and advice to the Director of Buildings and Government Architect and to the Divisional Engineers. The section designs and assists with the vetting of capital projects of buildings, retaining walls, light towers, jetties, and bridges and also represents the Ministry in tender evaluations.
The section also manages and monitors capital projects during site inspections accompanied by the Architects, Estimators, Divisional Engineers, Client Ministries and Contractors.
Estimating
The QS & Estimating Section consists of Estimators and Quantity Surveyors staff who offer a range of services on behalf of the government on its capital project planning, evaluation, monitoring, controlling and delivery system.
Our services include costing (budget and engineers), professional and technical advice, maintenance scoping works, preparation of construction control documents, tender documentation & evaluation, contract administration, variation order assessment, progress payment, site inspection and reporting, monitoring and controlling of costs, project cost projections and stakeholder collaboration & management.
