The Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, Hon. Ro Filipe Tuisawau, attended the 2025 Pacific Infrastructure Conference in Brisbane, where he presented Fiji’s Infrastructure Pipeline Plan to an international audience of government officials, development partners, and investors.
The presentation, which highlighted critical infrastructure national priorities, was well received by participants. It included Fiji’s 50-Year Water Sector Strategy Plan, a comprehensive roadmap designed to ensure long-term water security, strengthen climate resilience, and support sustainable economic growth.
While in Brisbane, Hon. Tuisawau also held a bilateral meeting with Ms. Grace P. Morgan, Director of the Department of Policy and Evaluation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) from the United States of America. The discussions centered on Fiji’s infrastructure development priorities and the nation’s strong commitment to international partnerships.
This meeting followed the announcement in Washington on August 21, where the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Board of Directors selected Fiji as eligible to develop a Compact partnership. The MCC Compact is a five-year grant program that supports transformative investments in infrastructure and economic development. Fiji’s selection reflects recognition of its reform efforts and its growing role as a strategic hub in the Pacific.
Commenting on Fiji’s selection, Hon. Tuisawau reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with MCC and other partners to deliver impactful infrastructure projects such as roads, water, jetties, energy, wastewater management, land ,and maritime transport. “This recognition underscores Fiji’s commitment to reforms and strategic development that benefit our people, while also enhancing international cooperation and investment opportunities,” he said.
The MCC’s decision also reflects broader U.S. engagement in the Pacific, with Tonga approved for a threshold program. These steps demonstrate a shared commitment to economic resilience, sustainable development, and strengthening regional partnerships.
The Fiji Government will continue to engage development partners and investors to advance infrastructure projects that drive inclusive growth, foster resilience against climate change, and improve the quality of life for all Fijians.
